The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium today announced the winner of this year’s CIO Leadership Award is Max Chan, senior vice president and global chief information officer (CIO) at Avnet. For nearly two decades, the annual award has recognized CIOs who lead their organizations to deliver exemplary levels of business value through the innovative use of IT. The panel of judges includes CIOs, renowned industry executives and thought leaders, and MIT Sloan-affiliated professionals.
Avnet is a leading global technology distributor and solutions provider. In his role, Chan reports to the CEO, serves on the executive team, and is responsible for architecting enterprise intelligence using AI, platforms, and operations models to drive growth, resilience, and sustained competitive advantage. He leads the company’s Global Information Solutions, encompassing enterprise IT, cybersecurity, data, and digital platforms for 15,000 employees worldwide. Additionally, Chan holds P&L accountability and oversees strategy, growth, and delivery across AI, data, cloud, and digital engineering services for Softweb Solutions, Avnet’s digital systems integrator.
“Max demonstrates the capabilities CIOs need to succeed as they apply business acumen, technical expertise, and strategic vision to balance AI, digital and traditional IT initiatives. He is not just a technology leader, he’s a strategic business leader with deep knowledge of what technology can do for his company,” said Dr. George Westerman, co-chair of the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Leadership Award Program. “Max’s vision to modernize a 100-year-old company, underscored by his commitment and measurable business results, is transforming how his company can compete, both now and in the future.”
Dr. Westerman presented the award to Chan at the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Leadership Award Dinner at the annual in-person event. The other distinguished Award finalists include Ramesh Razdan, global CIO and chief technology officer (CTO), Bain & Company; Vanessa Escrivá García, group CIO, MAPFRE; and Justin Fanelli, CTO, United States Department of the Navy. Chan and the finalists will continue to be recognized throughout the year as part of the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium’s growing online community for current and future CIOs.
