New Bill Could Cut VA Unemployability Benefits at 67: What Veterans Need to Know
St. Petersburg, United States – June 17, 2026 / Tucker Disability Law /
St. Petersburg, FL — June 15, 2026 — Tucker Disability Law, a national disability benefits firm with a 98.3% success rate on the VA cases it takes, is alerting veterans to a bill introduced in the U.S. House on June 3, 2026, that would limit VA Individual Unemployability (IU) compensation at age 67 for veterans who first qualify after the proposal’s effective date.
Which means: veterans who already receive IU, or who file and win it under today’s rules, would not be affected as the bill is currently written. And the veterans most at risk are the ones who keep putting off their claims.
The proposal has not been heard in committee and is not law. It may be amended or may not advance at all. Tucker Disability Law is not taking a political position on the bill; the firm’s aim is to make sure veterans understand their options under current rules.
“Veterans earned these benefits through their service, and no one should lose out simply because of when they filed,” said John V. Tucker, Managing Partner. “Whatever happens with this proposal, the strongest protection a veteran has is a claim filed correctly under today’s rules — with the right start date.”
The firm encourages veterans who cannot work due to service-connected conditions to have their IU eligibility reviewed and to contact their members of Congress regarding the proposal.
Tucker Disability Law applies its trademarked 9-Point Forensic Audit™ to identify what the VA may have missed and to strengthen IU claims. Veterans can schedule a free case evaluation at 844-886-9901
