William Paterson University student recognized for academic achievement, resilience, and commitment to pursuing a career in psychiatry.
WAYNE, NJ, UNITED STATES, September 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Scura, Wigfield, Heyer, Cammarota & Gonzalez, LLP is pleased to announce that Kailan Cass-Adams-Johnson, a student at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, has been selected as the recipient of the firm’s 2026 Jack Scura Fund Scholarship.
Established to honor the memory and legacy of the firm’s founding partner, John “Jack” Joseph Scura II, Esq., the Jack Scura Fund provides financial assistance to students with disabilities who demonstrate academic achievement, personal determination, and a commitment to their communities. The 2026 scholarship provides a total award of $10,000, with $5,000 designated for the Fall 2026 semester and an additional $5,000 designated for the Spring 2027 semester.
“We are proud to recognize Kailan Cass-Adams-Johnson as the 2026 recipient of the Jack Scura Fund Scholarship,” said the firm. “Kailan’s academic achievements, perseverance, and commitment to helping others embody the qualities this scholarship was established to recognize. Her journey demonstrates how challenges can become a source of strength, purpose, and compassion.”
Cass-Adams-Johnson’s academic journey reflects her determination to adapt and persevere in the face of significant obstacles. When life disrupted the plans she had carefully laid out for herself, she learned to adapt, seek support, and recognize her own strength. She went on to graduate from high school magna cum laude, earn a place on the Dean’s List in college, and complete an associate’s degree in Psychology.
Her experiences have also helped shape her aspirations for the future. Cass-Adams-Johnson is now pursuing her bachelor’s degree at William Paterson University with plans to attend medical school and become a psychiatrist. Her goal is rooted in a desire to help others who may be facing struggles of their own, drawing on the perspective and resilience she developed through her own experiences.
Her selection reflects the qualities the Jack Scura Fund was established to recognize: academic achievement, perseverance, and a demonstrated commitment to moving forward in the face of challenges. Her story illustrates the lasting impact that education can have—not only on an individual’s future, but also on the lives of those they hope to serve.
The Jack Scura Fund was created as a way for the firm to continue the values that Jack Scura demonstrated throughout his life. A dedicated advocate for education and helping others, Jack Scura put himself through college and law school while raising four children alongside his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Scura. He passed away on September 24, 2018.
The scholarship carries forward Jack’s belief in the transformative power of education and his commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Through the fund, the firm seeks to provide not only financial assistance but also encouragement to students working toward their academic and professional aspirations.
Applicants for the Jack Scura Fund Scholarship must be incoming or current undergraduate or graduate students at a New Jersey college or university and must have an intellectual disability, severe physical disability, or psychiatric disability. Applicants are also required to maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The application process includes academic transcripts, documentation of disability, two letters of recommendation, a résumé or curriculum vitae, and a personal essay addressing a significant challenge or setback and how the experience shaped the applicant.
Applications for the 2027 Jack Scura Fund Scholarship are expected to open in the new year. Additional information about the scholarship and future application opportunities is available through the firm’s website.
